Character study
The National Model Design Code, published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government in January 2021, defines a character study as: ‘A process of analysis at area type level to determine the elements and features that contribute to the unique character of a place. This process can be used to determine existing area types, using the area type work sheet.
